Like millions of others who are disgusted with the American Government banning free speech via TikTok, I now have a RedNote account. In Chinese, RedNote actually translates as (Chairman Mao’s) Little Red Book. As it’s a Chinese app with a Chinese user base (unlike TikTok), I’m also learning Chinese on Duolingo. The Duolingo app reported a 216% increase in the number of people learning Mandarin.
I would describe the current political situation as precarious. Just look at where we have gotten ourselves…
- the incoming President is a convicted felon and a rapist who attempted a coup 4 years ago.
- the outgoing President spent the last 15 months sponsoring Israel’s Genocide in Gaza and may be in legal jeopardy once he leaves office.
- the vast majority of the world support the Palestinians desperate fight for their country and for justice, yet our politicians ignore us.
- the grim Zionists have their tentacles throughout both mainstream media and social media. They shut down and throttle back content that supports Palestinian rights. Even the BBC’s coverage of the Genocide has been highly biased.
- Mark Zuckerberg and the grim Zionists conspired to ban TikTok because this was the one platform that Facebook couldn’t compete with and which the Israelis can’t censor.
- The Climate Crisis is running away from us. Carbon dioxide increased a record amount in 2024. We’ve failed to keep average temperatures under the target of 1.5 degrees. The last 10 years were the hottest 10 years on record. The Los Angeles firestorms are just an early indication of what may well become a new normal. And yet, even now, the incoming president believes that the Climate Crisis is a Chinese hoax.
- We have record extreme inequality. The American Government is now both an oligarchy and a kleptocracy. Private equity is making rents unaffordable. Working men and women are forced to work their socks off just to make ends meet while making the billionaires even wealthier. Most American families cannot cope with even a small financial emergency. Most Walmart employees are on food stamps and yet the Walton family are worth tens of billions of dollars.
Basically, we are in “let them eat cake” territory. Societies like ours are unsustainable. We really need a revolution. Ideally a “soft” revolution where no one gets hurt but where power and wealth is redistributed. We need to get rid of capitalism and the unaccountable oligarchs that it creates. We need to get rid of the horror of Zionism. We need social media to belong to the people rather than a couple of freakish billionaires. We need serious politicians who focus on mitigating the worst effects of the climate crisis so that there is something left of this once-beautiful planet to leave to our kids.
